Muslimah sisterhood is toxic-free

with 5 comments

I’ve been away  for about a week, and I’m finally home. I went around UK with a few friends to visit some of our other friends and attend an event or two. Now that I am about to end the day, all showered and ready for bed, I can’t help but feel slightly melancholy.

Becoming a Muslim, and trying to improve myself as a Muslimah is just so much easier when I’m around them. With them, I don’t have to engage in or listen to idle talk that would only lead to bitterness, hatred, pride, jealousy and sins.  Instead, if our conversations were like essays the themes would often be directly related to Islam. Planning our days around the prayer times and praying together is a norm.  Exchanging advice and reminders which most may consider “too sensitive” are expected, welcomed and encouraged. What we say, and what we do are many a time because of Allah.

I am thankful to Allah for allowing me to have these bunch of girls in my life. And I am thankful for having the chance to spend these past few days with them.  It’s different when friendships are formed based on faith, and amongst those who are God-conscious. It’s different, exciting and easy. And now that I’m alone and back at home, I already miss them.

May Allah shower His blessings, mercy and guidance to all the people in my life who are of taqwa. Who are together with me in this journey into becoming better hamba Allah. And who make their way in enjoing others in doing good and forbidding evil. May our iman and reliance in Allah sheild us from the fitnah of this dunia. Amin..

Narrated by Abu Musa:

The Messenger of God (PBUH) said: “The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of the seller of musk, and the one who blows the blacksmith’s bellows. So as for the seller of musk then either he will grant you some, or you buy some from him, or at least you enjoy a pleasant smell from him. As for the one who blows the blacksmith’s bellows then either he will burn your clothes or you will get an offensive smell from him.” (Bukhari)

The New Yorker Syndrome

without comments

I have the New Yorker Syndrome, i.e. having too much work and not having any chance to do other things. Term coined by Naz. He he.

I actually have 2 blog posts drafted, but I am yet to complete and publish them. I’m not sure if I’m lacking inspiration, determination to write or just losing the touch. So I can’t really say when exactly I’ll be back to my old blogging pace. But you can keep checking, and you might be in for a surprise!..or just RSS feed me ;)

Will blog soon!

Equilibrium

Been hearing crickets latetly? Yeah, Imma hearing ‘em too.

My absence are well justified. Very well justified. Honest. I could list them out right here, but I wouldn’t want to bore you to tears now would I?

Trying to find that perfect balance between academia and religious pursuits had been a jihad (struggle) for me. Sometimes one seem to be more fun than the other. And that temptation to just put that one aspect behind for awhile is often tempting. But I have to keep reminding myself that BOTH are important, and both need to go hand in hand. With Allah’s guidance (and teguran!) and the support of my Andalus/Ghuraba sisters, I’m slowly learning how to find this equipoise.  I’m not exactly there yet, but I’m getting there. Insya Allah. I’ve  learnt that there are 2 key pinciples in this sort of situation, and they are:

1) Prioritise, and

2) Sacrifice.

Sounds pretty easy and obvious, huh? Well,  I can tell you that it’s easier said than done! Once we get too caught up with the excitement or the demands of one task, everything else sometimes just dissolve in the background. By the time you had just realised that  you’ve neglected an important aspect of your life, you’d be running around like a headless chicken! It’s always handy to have those who are willing and ready to knock some sense into you.

I’ve got one more paper to sit for tomorrow. So I’ll end here. Good night :)

P.S.: I thought I’d post pictures of the belgian waffles I had with my BWM loves on Sunday. They tasted a lot better than they look!
